With a penchant for groove, NYC House head Rich Furniss has proven himself one of the most consistent artists bubbling up from the Big Apple’s streets in recent years. Influenced by the likes of Armand Van Helden, Derrick Carter and Frankie Knuckles, sharing the stage with Chromeo, Rick Ross, and Diplo, and performing at Governor’s Ball, Mayhem Fest, Miami Art Week, and Winter Music Conference, his fusion of house and disco has earned him media attention from Stateside media institutions Dancing Astronaut and YourEDM.
It’s clear Furniss’ intent for the new year is to push things even further, not just musically but artistically as well. Collaborating with well-known art legend Smurfo on the artwork for his latest single ‘Out Of This World’, Furniss brings the rich street art culture of NYC into the mix.
“I have grown up around art my whole life and it has always been a big part of who I am,” Furniss said. “Living in New York, you are surrounded by art constantly and that’s why I fell in love with the city. When I was just starting out in NYC I met up with Smurfo. I had always admired his lens of the world and his work. We came up DJing together all over Lower East Side Manhattan. He’s not only an amazing artist but also an amazing DJ which really brought us together. I’m honored to have one of his pieces tied to this single.”
The track itself is fire, smooth, funky disco guitars and delicious piano instrumentals underpinned by tight snares on the bassline, kick drums and claps adding rhythm and movement and that unmistakable New York City edge. A bonafide house hit, ‘Out Of This World’ slinks along with a confident groove, the classic-style house vocal sample used to perfection in building the pace and energy, a purpose-built terrace classic.
If this is how Rich Furniss is kicking off the year, we look forward to what else is instore from this growing US name.
