Cross-continental duo RICKY DIETZ have joined forces with UK R&B collective WSTRN on new single ‘Juicy Fruit’, out now.
A high-energy, feelgood dancehall jam, ‘Juicy Fruit’ combines infectious rhythms with WSTRN’s slick flow and catchy lyrics. It marks RICKY DIETZ’s third single release in quick succession, following the pumping dembow of ‘Passion Flute’ and bouncy groove of ‘Hennessy’.
Speaking on the collaboration, RICKY DIETZ comments, “I think because Toronto and London have such a similar and strong Caribbean influence, the vibe with WSTRN was there from the get, and we knocked out “Juicy Fruit” in just a couple of hours! It’s exactly what the track needed. A sweet, intercontinental pop dancehall tune fi di gyal dem.“
From WSTRN, Louis Rei also notes, “The link with Ricky Dietz was organic, he pulled up to our local studio (the same one we recorded our first ever record, ‘In2’) and the chemistry was automatically there”
“Yeah, that’s why the riddims so crazy -” adds Akelle from WSTRN, “it’s always the sessions that don’t feel forced that you get the best tunes from”
Composed of Pierre Baigorry and Toronto-born singer Sway Clarke II, RICKY DIETZ is a riotous collaboration between two celebrated artists from different parts of the world and different musical backgrounds. Prior to their formation in 2019, Sway had already been lauded by the press as an artist to watch and even dubbed ‘R&B’s next internet stud’ by The FADER, also drawing support from COLORS and writing songs for international stars such as John Legend and Tinie Tempah.
Meanwhile Pierre, aka Peter Fox, is better known as the frontman of multi-platinum German reggae and dancehall outfit Seeed. Travelling the world and working with artists including Sarz, Cracker Mallo and Jr. Blender, RICKY DIETZ’s danceable, soul-drenched sound is one that can be appreciated the world over – from Berlin to Trinidad.
Made up of Akelle Charles, Haile and Louis Rei, WSTRN burst onto the scene in 2015 with debut single ‘In2’, a track that peaked at #4 in the UK Singles chart and went multi-platinum. They have since collaborated with the likes of MoStack, Tiwa Savage and Unknown T, remixed tracks from Rita Ora, Rudimental and Mabel, and topped the charts as part of Artists For Grenfell, a collective of musicians raising money to help those involved in the Grenfell Tower fire. More recently they dropped ‘Mama Stay’, an acclaimed single that has racked up 2 million Spotify streams in just two months.
An innovative collaboration, ‘Juicy Fruit’ sees RICKY DIETZ and WSTRN craft a track brimming with sunkissed dancefloor energy.
