This May will see Maya Schenk inaugurate her new imprint Henri Records with the ‘Rigmarole’ EP, comprising two original compositions from the German-born, Swiss artist.
Maya Schenk has been making waves with her dark and brooding production style over the past two years via the likes of New York’s Nervous Records, London’s CR2 and Melbourne’s Habitual Recordings. With enthusiastic support from the likes of Jamie Jones, Hot Since 82, Maxxi Soundsystem, Roger Sanchez, Danny Tanaglia and Todd Edwards, she’s made fans of old and new-school legends alike and here we see Maya at the helm of an exciting new venture in the shape of her very own, Henri Records.
Opening the release is title-track ‘Rigmarole’ which sees Maya fuse emotive organ chord progressions, airy atmospherics and resonant synth sequences with robust, swinging rhythms and a retro-inspired, bubbling bass lead to create a hypnotic slice of driving electronica.
Closing the package is ‘Difference’ which leans into Techno territories via a weighty rhythmic drive, sporadic bass licks, swelling atmospheric glitches and looped vocal phrases of the track’s title, while a gritty insistent synth lead infiltrates the record throughout its eight-minute duration.
Maya Schenk’s ‘Rigamrole’ EP is out on Henri Records 6th May 2016.
