Riordan Fuses UKG and Tech House Elements on New Single “While The Record Spins” on Insomniac Records
Breakthrough house producer Riordan is the freshest name to ascend from the vibrant UK scene. For his Insomniac Records debut, he seamlessly blends ‘90s garage with murky, tech-infused grooves on his new single “While The Record Spins.”
Showcasing the English producer’s panache for capturing club culture in both its past and future forms, “While The Record Spins” revolves around a timeless aesthetic. The track deftly arranges vintage vocals and quintessential siren samples around whirring sub-bass shots and shuffling drums, while building its groove around the chunkiest of basslines. It’s a top-notch club record combining old-school ‘90s influences with a tech house pulse that is unmistakably modern. This sweet spot has quickly become a calling card of sorts for the buzzing producer.
Riordan confirms he reserved one of his personal favorites for his first outing on Insomniac Records, a polished diamond that has sparked peak anticipation from his sets as of late.
“‘While The Record Spins’ is one of my proudest productions to date and is very representative of the music that I am playing at shows right now,” he says. “It’s been a staple in my set for months.”
He points to the Venn Diagram of timeless and modern, which is the crux of its appeal.
“It’s a true crossover record between the two genres that I love the most: house and garage,” he says. “I wanted to carry over the vibe from some of my favorite classic ‘90s garage records with both the bassline and vocal, and then combine it with the modern energy of tech house.”
Emerging from Sussex in south-east England, Riordan arrives on Insomniac Records hot off the breakout success of his certified hit single “Needle on the Record,” which was embraced by tastemaker DJs and the Beatport charts alike. In addition to holding the #1 position on the Overall Chart for a stunning three-week duration, the single additionally amassed nearly 3 million streams on Spotify alone, on top of earning coveted radio support from Kiss FM, BBC Radio One, and Pete Tong, to name a few.
Having already thoroughly rinsed “While The Record Spins” to appreciative crowds in recent months, Riordan is not resting on his laurels on the DJ front either. Set to support Gorgon City during Miami Music Week, he’s got upcoming performances at Bristol’s Clock Factory and Thirty3Hz in Guildford. There are plenty more dates slated to firm up for the upcoming festival season, and his latest track is poised to be on heavy rotation when all is said and done.
