Rising UK producers Jacana People return with atmospheric new single ‘Awara’

Rising UK producers Jacana People return with brand new single ‘Awara’, their first release since a stellar run of live dates in support of Porij’s recent UK tour, out now via Hide The Moth.

Following the success of their recent single, ‘Teeth’, which won key support from the BBCR1 family, alt-electronic duo Jacana People return with the emotive ‘Awara’.

On ‘Awara’, the duo continue to showcase their penchant for storytelling across mood-switching soundscapes, encompassing rhythmic drums and nuanced percussion to create a warm immersive experience; teasing elements of ambient, while hinting at the hope of euphoric times ahead. Additional vocal arrangements create momentum, as the track surges, evoking the warmest of memories of epic evenings and hazy mornings as the sun breaks through the clouds.

On the release, Jacana People say:

‘On Awara, we really wanted to create something full of light and joy. It’s one of the first times we’ve used a vocal hook in this big way and when writing the track we just felt it would become the focal point – the thing that people gravitated towards. The message of the song kind of feels universal and yet we always take something new from it, every time we hear it. Like our last single ‘Teeth’, ‘Awara’ relies on this feeling of new life, change and growth but we wanted things to feel even brighter and more alive. With that energy, we think it further signals this new phase we’re coming into. This track actually took a long time to come together and we are just very excited to share it with everyone.’

The release comes off the back of a busy few months for the duo, alongside joining Porij on a UK tour they recently performed at Printworks and opened for Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs with a blistering set at Manchester’s New Century House. Collaboration is always at the forefront of the project, not only with each other but with friends including Barry Can’t Swim, who commissioned them for remix duties on the track ‘Some Day I Will’. Releases including ‘Teeth’ and ‘Myna Cycles’, a collaborative EP with Neil Cowley, have seen them gain critical acclaim and support from the likes of Tom Ravenscroft, Mary Anne Hobbs, Nemone, Steve Lamacq and Jaguar, positioning them at the forefront of rising UK talent, resulting in 130k monthly listeners on Spotify and a combined total of 7.7 million streams across DSPs

2022 saw the emergence of their live show, with a string of festival dates, high profile support slots, and shows alongside the likes of O’Flynn, George FitzGerald, Yunè Punku, Maria Chiara Argiró, Surya Sen and Model Man, hinting at the promise of future performances to come. In a relatively short amount of time, what began as a project between two friends during lockdown has evolved into an outlet for the pair’s sonic ambition that shows no signs of abating, as the duo cut their teeth at some of UK’s most respected venues and continue to build on their already impressive catalogue of releases.
