South African singer-songwriter Ross Learmonth continues to carve out a bold new solo chapter with the release of ‘Opposites’, a vibrant and emotionally layered single that arrives off the back of a run of major 2025 performances—including his standout set opening for The Goo Goo Dolls earlier this month.
Best known as the former frontman of Prime Circle, Learmonth has spent the past few years redefining his sound and stepping confidently into his own artistic identity. ‘Opposites’ marks another leap forward—an infectious, feel-good track that balances lyrical reflection with polished indie-pop energy.
Built on a foundation of guitars, drums, synth and piano, the track unfolds with undeniable radio appeal. There’s a brightness to its arrangement, yet its message—loosely inspired by Learmonth’s parents’ relationship—cuts deeper: “Every now and then opposites attract, and bring out the best… and worst in each other…” he shares.
Learmonth co-wrote and recorded the track with his UK-based production team—Rusti Rossouw and Tristan Carmichael—reuniting the same line-up behind his Top 40 hits ‘Honey’ and ‘Because of You’. The creative spark was instant, with the singer describing the writing process as spontaneous and intuitive:
“It felt like the song was floating in the room—it wanted to be written.”
‘Opposites’ also forms part of Learmonth’s ongoing collaboration with RADA Unearthed, a humanitarian initiative that supports community upliftment through music. Royalties from the single will go towards social impact projects, reinforcing the artist’s commitment to using his platform for good.
With a second studio album on the horizon and another single due in May, Ross Learmonth’s solo momentum shows no signs of slowing. ‘Opposites’ is out now on all major platforms.
