Dancefloors of 2022, there’s venom in the air: The Galaxy and Kage team up as dastardly dancefloor instructors on Be Yourself Music, wanting clubbers to sweat bullets for a rocky bass ride, hellbent on making you earn bruises as a badge of honour. ‘Get Crunk’ might be a signal for getting loose and letting it all hang out in other genres: here, this house/techno-edged hard rock is not so charitable, particularly when its synth-lead intermissions grunt and take aim like a raging bull. Tough with a capital T, ‘Get Crunk’ is elastic enough to slingshot its way across arenas and leave you seeing stars.
Now tooled up with dark side sounds after the Big & Dirty beast of ‘Wicked’ last year, The Galaxy continues to hop from playlist to playlist having sent the Balearica of ‘Bulletproof’ dipping over the horizon. The previous two-man version of The Galaxy became a big deal on the Barong Family record label, owned by Mad Decent/Roc Nation noisemakers Yellow Claw, and earned rave reviews at the Tomorrowland and Mysteryland festivals via the regular rocking of crowds across Asia. As a solo act expressing himself on the mic as well as the decks, The Galaxy’s ‘Hero’ track became sought after across the country, and the self-titled sequel chalked up over a million streams on Spotify.
‘Rise from the shadows’ – that’s the slogan Kage works to, and one that Porter Robinson, Oliver Heldens and Martin Garrix have taken notice of. Most at home when raw bass is at his fingertips, Kage’s relatively young career has already sent ‘The Raid’ and ‘Confused’ into the sacred realms of one million-plus streams of Spotify, with Night Bass, IN/ROTATION and Riotville leading the labels that have picked the lock to his brand of uneasy listening and cut-throat club sounds.
Grit your teeth, stomp your feet and ‘Get Crunk’ – The Galaxy and Kage have all the horsepower you need.
