It’s not often you genuinely hear something completely fresh, but that’s exactly what newcomer Mark Daisy has delivered in the shape of ‘Runaway’, the lead single from his upcoming debut album ‘Daisyland’.
With shades of the Polyphonic Spree to the vocal, craftily concocted bubblegum-Pop tones run through the synth lines, making ‘Runaway’ unique enough to instantly catch the ear. There’s a restraint to both the production and composition that holds the track back from falling into Eurotrash nonsense but there’s clearly a sense of humour and levity infused into the single’s DNA.
That’s underlined by the accompanying press release, which outlines Daisy’s vision for his sonic landscape, a place where “rainbows arch high above, painting the sky in a kaleidoscope of hues, and where flowers bloom in a mesmerizing spectrum of colours.” Daisy also introduces the “playful and harmonious Speaker Creatures, who share his profound affinity for sound.”
Quite what these Speaker Creatures will unleash via Mark Daisy is as yet unknown, but ‘Daisyland’ the album sees him collaborate with some pretty big hitters from the real world, including Nicky Night Time (known for his work with Hayden James, Elderbrook, Gorgon City), Noah Schy, and vocal producer Nate Alford (noted for his contributions to Rihanna and Miley Cyrus). If these names are anything to go by, and judging by ‘Runaway’, we have a potential bright new star on our horizon. And, let’s face it, in a world where everything is seriously doom and gloom right now, it feels like a little bit of Daisyland is exactly what we need.
