Sara Leanne ‘Songs From Your Daughter’ – Debut EP ‘Uprooted’

By Natalie Greener October 14, 2026 2 min read

There’s something genuinely rare about a song that feels this raw without ever tipping into melodrama, and Sara Leanne’s ‘Song From Your Daughter’ pulls it off with real grace.

Written after the loss of her father, this piano-led single sits in that beautiful in-between space – bluesy, soulful, a little jazzy – that Sara herself admits is hard to pin down with a genre tag. Honestly? That’s part of what makes it work.

Sara isn’t new to big stages. As an internationally touring pianist and vocalist who’s performed the role of Christine McVie with Rumours of Fleetwood Mac (officially endorsed by Mick Fleetwood himself), she knows exactly how to hold an audience. But ‘Song From Your Daughter’ strips all of that back. This is Sara at her most exposed, processing grief, guilt and numbness in real time, and turning songwriting into something closer to therapy than performance.

The recording story only adds to the impact. Sara has spoken about how overwhelming it was to record the vocal – how she had to stop mid-session and come back later to sing it through in one continuous take, the very take that made the final cut. You can hear that vulnerability in every line.

Manchester, where Sara’s been based for five years, clearly shaped the community around this release: producer and pianist Andrew Jones, engineer Matt Butler (whose resume includes Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd and Johnny Cash), and mastering from Lismore. And in a lovely full-circle touch, the cover artwork is by Sara’s dad, Pete Edwards… the person this whole song is about.

If ‘Song From Your Daughter’ is this affecting as a standalone single, expect big emotions from Sara’s debut EP, Uprooted, and promising a deeper dive into family, love, friendship and music. Fans of Carole King, Bonnie Raitt, Eva Cassidy, Sarah Jarosz, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Madison Cunningham need this one on their radar.
