Scott Robinson releases new “Everyone EP” on Colin Dale’s Abstrakt Dance Label

Lifelong techno devotee Scott Robinson releases his new Detroit-inspired 4 track “Everyone EP” on Colin Dale’s renowned Abstrakt Dance label, coming full circle having listened to Colin’s longstanding radio show of the same name since the late 80’s.

Opening up is the title track, “Everyone One”, which is deeply pulsing Detroit inspired techno with a bouncy bassline, echoey electro keys and all framed by punchy beats. Continually building before breaking out into its eerie bassline roll and charged up with hi hats, it’s set to keep the dance floor moving.

Next up is “The Alternative”, more of a stripped down housey affair with deep ripples n’ grooves that kick in with a jaunty key refrain and “What’s the alternative..” sound generated by a machine” sample that carries the swing.

One of the standout cuts, “Everything And Nothing”, shines with its mean dubby tech groove and ethereal urban sounds that cut through to unleash vintage synth lines and snaking hi hats. Retro with a kick, this is a worthy call to arms for any dance floor.

Rounding off is “Still Human” and hugely evocative of the classic Detroit techno blueprint. Energetic whilst painting urban landscapes with its taut beats and spacey sounds and “Just relax, it’s a journey, there’s no destination…” sample.

Producer Scott Robinson first got the music production bug when acid house exploded in England, after nurturing himself on hip hop and early electronic music making machines.

Quickly buying early machines on his student income, his first release was the “Invisible EP” with Nottingham’s Nebula II crew in early trance style for Collide Records. But techno music was in his blood, and he chose that direction inspired by hours of listening to Colin Faver (RiP) and Colin Dale on pirate radio station, Kiss FM, and assorted mixtapes that he could lay his hands on. Frequenting record shops, Scott started going to raves and warehouse parties, and then threw himself into the early UK techno scene, having worked and performed with early UK techno frontrunner, Russ Gabriel, as the band, K2.

In 1998 Scott sent the Liberator brothers a demo, the “For Muffin EP” which was released on Cluster Records, an offshoot label of Stay up Forever, and played by Radio 1’s legendary John Peel as well as being championed on the Midlands free party scene.

Scott then set up the wonky and left field techno club, Ugly Funk, which built up a good reputation before moving to London in the early Noughties. He also produced an eponymous release in honour of Ugly Funk.

Scott has played Live at events alongside Bill Youngman (now Headless Horseman), Neil Landstrumm, Subhead and Cristian Vogel, whom he learnt a lot from.

He’s racked up an impressive catalogue of releases that includes the “Ancient Shadows EP” on UKR, known for its heavy and dark techno, and also featured on the “Touched 2” cancer fundraising album alongside Radioactive Man, Plaid and B12.  With releases to follow including “Corrupt Sounds EP” on UKR at the end of March and the “Meraki EP” on Acidworks at the end of April, 2025 is a consolidating year for this techno stalwart.
