Leading French label Meant Records returns with a brand new EP from Alien Alien featuring remixes from JD Twitch, Moralez and JP Soul & Anthony Mansfield..
Alien Alien are respected producers Rodion and Hugosan. They have released previously on Slow Motion, Meant Records and their own Roccodisco label as a duo, whilst Rodion has a weighty discography on the likes of Gomma, Eskimo, Nang and Les Disques de la Mort. In the studio they fuse elements of techno, disco, electro and more to create a uniquely compelling and heady sound, something that is evidenced once again here across their two original cuts.
The EP opens with ‘Secret Sabbah’ an intense and direct cut that marries hypnotic intoned vocals with acidic synths and building drums & percussion to great effect. The second original, ‘Versailles’ sees the pair dive deep into a subtle sea of sound underpinned by a wonderful sawtooth arpeggio that gets right under your skin.
The remixes kick off with a reworking of ‘Secret Sabbah’ by Optimo man JD Twitch who twists up the original into a wonky and imposing techno wall of sound. Next up Russian production talent Moralez tackles ‘Versailles’, delivering a wonderful slice of acid house that cannot fail to get you moving. The digital package also comes with a mix of ‘Versailles’ from San Francisco pair JP Soul & Anthony Mansfield, their version is an off kilter floorfiller where the synths go into overdrive and the drums drive the point home, a superb closer to a brilliant package.
Meant records have done it again with another exceptional release from the ever reliable Alien Alien.
