Late October will see Audiojack’s Gruuv label deliver David Pher’s ‘See You Tonight’ EP, comprising two original tracks and a remix from Sable Sheep.
Berlin’s David Pher’s career has take leaps and bounds over the past six years with material for reputable imprints such as Crosstown Rebels, Tsuba and Viva, here we see David make a return to the Gruuv imprint though following his ‘Wild Eyes’ track which was featured on the label’s ‘5 Years of Gruuv’ compilation.
As always from David Pher the ‘See You Tonight’ EP sees him deliver a rough and ready, groove- led release and the title track opens things up with just this format. ‘See You Tonight’ is laid out over seven minutes with ever-unfolding organic percussion, sporadic horn hits, hypnotic drones and poetic vocal stylings.
On the flip Pher delivers ‘Crazy Thoughts’, retaining a similar aesthetic to the preceding track with low-slung percussion and tripped out vocal lines, while bringing vacillating sub bass tones and hooky stab sequences into the limelight to further fuel the infectious groove. Desolat / Moon Harbour’s Sable Sheep then steps up to rework ‘Crazy Thoughts’ to close the package, bringing a more upfront feel to things with crunchy, penetrative rhythms running alongside snaking bass grooves and snippets of the original’s vocal.
David Pher’s ‘See You Tonight’ EP is out on Gruuv 23rd October 2015.
