Seinabo Sey – Younger
Genre defying pop practitioner Seinabo Sey releases new single ‘Younger’ on 10th May. With her fascinating blend of Swedish noir pop, African rhythms and down tempo R’n B, this 23-year-old from Stockholm marks a new era for popular music.
Gambian born Sey has been marked out as a one-to-watch on numerous 2015 new music lists including, VEVO Dscvr’s ‘Ones to Watch’ and Spotify UK’s Spotlight, and there’s a huge buzz online with Disco Naiveté putting her in their sound of 2015 list and Hype Machine naming her their 2nd ‘most blogged’ and ‘favourite tracks’ artist of the year..
With the release of’ ‘Younger’ Seinabo’s world is set to explode. The track comes with a message, it’s nostalgic yet hopeful, a reminder to live life in the moment, ‘cause we ain’t getting any Younger are we?’
‘Younger’ has already proved to be a worldwide smash scoring a top 10 chart on iTunes in over 10 countries, certified 4 x platinum in Norway and 3 x platinum in her native Sweden.
Video views for the track have already topped over 2.2 million and notched up an incredible 65 million plays on Spotify. An ethereal electronic remix by Norwegian producer, Kygo (whose debut single received an impressive 22.5 Million streams in one month) is also making waves on the Shazam chart, where the original has already charted at No.1. Additional remixes to come from HeavyTrackerz and Camel Phat.
In Sweden, Seinabo’s superstar profile continues to grow with her being honoured with her own postage stamp alongside other prolific Swedish names including Max Martin, Avicii, Robyn and First Aid Kit. The stamp has been illustrated by artist Jenny Mörtsell to celebrate internationally successful Swedish acts. Furthermore, Sey has been nominated for four Swedish Grammy awards (Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year [Younger] & Best Video [Pistols At Dawn by Christian Larson]) and was also given the honour of performing at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in December.
Sey has spent the last few months playing shows across Europe, her 2 sold out London shows attended by Frank Ocean. Other music fans include both Bastille and MNEK, both recently tweeted about the songstress saying ‘She’s interesting, unique and can hold a room without having to be all bells and whistles about it’ and ’I fucking love Seinabo Sey’ respectively. In the U.S. she recently made her debut TV performance on the Conan O’Brian show, which met rave reviews, while on tour with Neon Gold.
In the studio, Sey has been working with Brit and Grammy nominated production duo Disclosure and recording her own debut album in Stockholm with renowned producer Magnus Lidehäll. The record is expected to reflect a chaotic, creative life spent living in both Africa and Europe. The pair have formed a song-writing partnership built around her precision-drill performance as vocalist, and the metallic sheen of his understated, hook-laden synths and beats. Together they’re subtly twisting the conventions of pop.
About to embark on a UK Tour with Lion Babe, Seinabo will release her debut album in the summer of 2015.
