Anna Straker - Serious EP

In a little over half a year, London-based producer and singer-songwriter Anna Straker has fast become one of the most exciting emerging talents in electronic music.  Her fervent love of synths, subtle experimentation with vocoder and playful, powerful lyrics about claiming her youth and power as a young female solo artist have enchanted tastemakers including Annie Mac (‘New Names’ June 2016), Huw Stephens, Monki, Jamz Supernova, Pigeons and Planes, The 405, CLASH, Wonderland, Nylon and Hunger.

Today, she presents her much awaited debut EP, Serious – a collection of her work to date, including ‘Late Night Swimming’, How We Are’ and ‘Serious’ as well as a brand new single, ‘Desert Floor.'

“Lyrically, ‘Desert Floor’ is my most powerful song. It taps into this metaphysical realm in my head where I can achieve anything. I don't need the moon to make me glow! I want listeners to feel empowered. It's my version of Voodoo Chile by Jimi Hendrix.”

‘Late Night Swimming’, the seductive, summery debut single from Anna Straker which premiered via Pigeons & Planes is driven by a hazy synth-heavy instrumental. Anna’s sweet and weightless vocal permeates the melody giving it an edgy pop appeal. ‘How We Are’ saw Anna taking the tempo up a notch. Bass frequency staccato synths and chopped vocal cuts pave the way for Anna’s faultless voice to make its entrance. A thoughtful, twinkling bridge steals the attention momentarily but soon leads to a funky chorus. Most recently marking Anna’s return and announcing her debut EP of the same moniker was ‘Serious’, the infectious single that’s glimmering 80s keys, signature staccato synths and infectious claps made for a dancefloor ready cut with undeniable groove and attitude.

Anna began her career singing backing vocals on chart topping singles and albums by the likes of Rudimental, John Newman, Years and Years and Fono. Determined and ambitious, it wasn’t long before she began to fully immerse herself in her own music, leaving school at 17 and moving to London to pursue her solo career. Writing and producing from her Grandma’s attic in Acton, Anna has honed these skills and her sonic identity which has culminated in her debut EP, Serious.
