Shaun J. Wright & Alinka push on with the second release on their Twirl! Imprint this December; offering up ‘Wait For Love’, accompanied by remixes from Eli Escobar and Newbody.
Chicago’s Shaun J. Wright & Alinka have been hard at work over the past couple of years, launching the Twirl! brand via a string of events on their home turf in 2013, while October saw Twirl! step from event to record label. Kicking off with material from the founding duo which was championed by the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Groove Armada, Luke Solomon, Gorgon City and Art Department to name but a few, a striking indication of the modern appeal and hard hitting quality embodied in the pair’s output.
The original mix of title cut ‘Wait For Love’ opens up the release, seeing the pair employ the classic acid house 303 module as the driving force, alongside crunchy 909 rhythms, bubbling bass tones and sporadic resonant synth licks. While Hercules & Love Affair vocalist Shaun J. Wright’s smoky vocal lines add that finishing touch to create yet another charming, classic-meets-contemporary composition from the duo.
The Eli Escobar interpretation of ‘Wait For Love’ follows, taking things in a slightly different direction with dropped tempo 707 style rhythms, meandering arpeggio synth lines and bulbous sub bass hits. While an emotive piano chord progression and snippets of the original vocal lines instil a warmth and musicality to the reshape.
The Newbody remix then rounds off the package, taking a New Jersey Garage approach with bumpy off- kilter drums, pitched vocal chops and an infectious Hammond organ hook, completing the package brilliantly and resulting in a radiantly diverse record with a widespread appeal.
Shaun J. Wright & Alinka’s ‘Wait For Love’ is out on Twirl! 8th December 2014.
