SHIMA Releases Cross-Cultural New Electronica Single ‘1807’ via Young Art Records

Japanese female electronic artist SHIMA has released her new single ‘1807’ out now via Young Art Records.

An all-absorbent listening experience, ‘1807’ is a captivating original that beautifully blends SHIMA’s Japanese origins and melodic electronica stylings. Laden with silky flutes, atmospheric synths, and rhythmic percussion, ‘1807’ is crafted around a sampled Japanese folk song and seamlessly threads SHIMA’s two distinctive sonic influences. Showcasing the depth and ingenuity of her sound, ‘1807’ celebrates the clashing of cultures fans can expect throughout SHIMA’s ever-growing discography.

“‘1807’ samples a Japanese folk song that used to be sung by fishermen in the Hokkaido region of Japan, while they worked on their sailboats to catch cod fish. The regional dialect is unfortunately part of a shrinking culture that people are increasingly starting to realize the importance of preserving and keeping alive in the public consciousness. By combining this folk song with totally new influences and modern synth leads, I hope that in my own small way I can also contribute to keeping these cultures and traditions alive and evolving.” – SHIMA

Born and raised in Tokyo, SHIMA is a former J-Pop girl group singer turned electronic solo artist. Her career began at age 14 when she signed to a major Japanese label, and her musical aspirations have since followed her around the globe. Journeying stateside at 18, SHIMA studied Music & Computer Engineering at the University of Miami, furthering her skills as a producer and engineer. Her experience traversing genres has become a fluid part of her signature, with her originals exploring a potpourri of electronica sounds like indie, trap, house, and techno. Now based in LA, 2025 sees SHIMA soaring to new heights with upcoming performances at Miami Music Week, Coachella DoLaB, Breakaway and Electric Forest, and new releases on the horizon.
