Shine announces Boxing Night Feel My Bicep with Bicep, Craig Richards + More
Local heroes Bicep return to Shine this Boxing Day, bringing with them their acclaimed Feel My Bicep party for what is regarded as the biggest night of the year in Belfast.
Belfast born duo Matt McBriar & Andy Ferguson are the founders of Feel My Bicep, the famous cult-defining music repository, championing electronic sounds varying from techno and house, to italo and leftfield electronica. Through this portal, they’ve made a name as some of the UK’s most important electronic artists and tastemakers. Their branded Feel My Bicep events curate the best in techno and house music, and have become synonymous with solid, credible musical lineups, gathering momentum across the UK and beyond following annual sold out events at The Warehouse Project in Manchester, and ADE in Amsterdam.
Following on from their debut Belfast event at Shine in 2014 (with Jeff Mills amongst the stellar guests invited) this year they host another all star cast. Fabric London resident Craig Richards joins Bicep plus residents Swoose & Cromby in the main room, while Berghain/Panorama Bar mainstay nd_baumecker headlines room 2 with FMB residents Brassica and Hammer. Upstairs, Scottish Techno titans Clouds are supported by Phil Kieran and last but not least, room 4 proceedings are taken care of by Schmutz and Holly Lester.
Shortly after launching in 1995, Shine quickly became a staple for clubbers in Northern Ireland – and within just a few months was bringing some of the biggest DJs in the world to the capital city, often for the first time. Dave Clarke, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin and 2manyDJs would become regular visitors, whilst everyone from DJ Shadow to Aphex Twin helped ensure things were always interesting.
In 2016 Shine is celebrating 21 years – before the end of the year they’re welcoming back old friends Derrick May, John Digweed and Slam, while continuing to look forward in the company of Len Faki, Kolsch, Skream, Jackmaster, EZ and many more. 2016 has also been an incredible year for former and current Shine residents, with Phil Kieran, Schmutz and Space Dimension Controller – all who’ve played Shine many times – enjoying continuing success all around the world. With huge names playing Shine before the end of the year – and some of their biggest events to date booked in for 2017 – the future’s bright.
"Going to Shine as a teenager in the late 90s and 00s opened my eyes. You could see Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Billy Nasty. We played their 20th birthday party this year and you could see how deep the culture goes: there's now two or three generations of Belfast DJs, producers and promoters who've been inspired by Shine." – Matthew McBriar, Bicep 2015
