Moon Harbour’s busy period continues with another new EP from label regular Sidney Charles, who last appeared on the label with his Whiplash EP a little earlier in the year.
German tastemaker Charles is one of the most reliable and effective names in the game: his razor-sharp beats cut up clubs all over the world, while as a DJ he is just as high impact. The Hamburg man put out his House Lessons album on Avotre back in 2015 and continues to preach on labels like the legendary Relief Records and Truseoul. Once again here he is in fine form across another pair of vital cuts.
First up is the excellent Mono Pulse, seven minutes of bristling and prickly tech with rude boy vocal attitude and high energy drum work. It is crisp and metallic, with whirring hits and sci-fi effects all whipping you up into a frenzy as the tension builds and breaks over and over again.
Just as chunky and brilliant is Bassline Shuffle, which is a more pared-back tune that focuses on tightly knitted bass and drums. They sit together perfectly and get you into a hot lather as they bounce and bobble along with synth splashes and rising pads all adding to the most physical and impactful trip.
