After a jam-packed year playing gigs around the world alongside the best in the business, the Sheffield-born DJ, songwriter and producer Silva Bumpa kickstarts 2024 with his latest single ‘Without U ‘. The track features rising vocalist Megan Wroe and is released via influential label Locked On Records.
Following the success of Silva Bumpa’s recent single ‘What About The DJ?’, ‘Without U’ is a pulsating throwback to the 2000s Garage scene. The track is a soulful slice of pop-infused speed Garage, bringing back memories of fellow Sheffield producer T2’s classic, ‘Heartbroken’. Bolton-born artist Megan Wroe’s vocals perfectly punctuate the intoxicating, feel-good bassline from Silva Bumpa – showcasing their undeniable artistic chemistry.
Discussing the track, Silva Bumpa said: “I’ve been so into this 2007 cheeky speed garage sound for ages now, like the stuff from the Danny Bond CDs and Sound of Bassline, and have wanted to write an original like that for so long. Megan has got the perfect voice for this stuff, and it was so much fun working together.”
Megan Wroe said: “Whenever we write together, there’s always an aim to get a bit of a storyline going. ‘Without U ‘ is like an upbeat tale of one of those near relationships gone wrong, and it’s a bit like, do I carry on or don’t I? I think it can be an easy thing to write about but so fun at the same time because practically everyone has had one of those situations where they think, ‘hang on, I’m actually better off without you.'”
Silva Bumpa’s sounds combine UK bass grit with the singalong bounce of club classics, bottling the effervescent spirit of mid-noughties bassline with solid songwriting. Following releases on influential underground labels Hardline, ec2a and ATW Records, the Sheffield artist is gracing iconic imprint Locked On for his most ambitious EP yet – What About The DJ?, set for release this April. What’s more, ‘Without U’ comes amidst an exciting period for the producer, with his monthly residency at Sheffield’s Hope Works on going and key sets at London’s Village Underground (26th January) and Boiler Room in Liverpool alongside Skream & Benga (27th January) capping off an exciting start to the year.
