Carton-Pâte Records this month release the four-tracker ‘Catch 22’ from Simba fronted by the lead single ‘Touch’ featuring Riya. UK-based talent Simba has quickly established himself as a stellar producer and is already counting on support from the likes of Skream, Disclosure, Eats Everything, Midland, Friends Within, Snakehips, Monki, Benga and Justin Martin, to name but a few.
The production is full of concentrated substance and starts-off almost as if it was the audio from a scene in the iconic film ‘The Lion King’, which happens to be Simba’s favourite film, inspiring not only his name but also the artwork of the EP. The intro transcends into a smooth introduction made-up of a chilled drum beat, bright synths and also Riya’s soft voice in the background. Riya is given more prominence after the drop, which follows this section. At this point the track reaches a peak; Simba hardens the groove with more solid synths and drum beats, which compliment Riya’s vocals perfectly.’Touch’ truly brings out Riya’s talent, her vocal acrobatics sound silky and her phrasing really gives a lift to this track, justifying without a doubt why she is crowned queen of Drum and Bass and hyped for her versatility by numerous critics.
Simba’s passion for music started at a young age when he used to listen to Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop and RnB. However, his love towards electronic music took-off when he started taking interest in Drum and Bass and listening to BBC Radio 1’s Bailey, who later became a supporter of Simba’s work. Whilst Simba’s fans can enjoy his music at the renowned Tuesday Club in Sheffield where he is now a resident amongst some of the biggest names in the industry, one can only expect more to come from this talented young producer.
