The shooting star of melodic house, Canada’s Simon Doty is in tune with the zeitgeist in this homage to vintage house and 90’s trance. His twin reworks of gardenstate’s banger ‘1995’, the ‘Housed Up’ and ‘I Made Trance’ remixes, deliver the euphoria we need right now, with his signature fast dance vibes, tech know-how, and real feeling. ‘There were so many good parts in gardenstate’s original track it made total sense to do two completely different versions,’ Simon says.
With his own 4 Anjunadeep EPs, most recently the sublime ‘Solaris’, spectacular shows across America, launching his RECESS party series and his Rhetorical Radio show, the self-taught talent has justified the early support of Phil Taggart, Danny Howard, Gorgon City, Cassian, Jax Jones and Lane 8, and respected labels Knee Deep In Sound, Realm, Stress Records… No wonder he’s in demand for remix duties too.
Housed Up Remix: Fast, relentless, the layers of delayed bass riffs, kick drum and haunting vocals conjure up long, hot nights of dance floor action. ‘The house version is more typically me, melodic elements mixed with a clubbier and more powerful groove.’
I made trance remix has the builds and breaks, the full-on synth strings experience, reminiscent not just of ‘1995’, but right back to Moroder and Summer’s 1977 breakthrough. ‘The second version is a more driving and trancey big room sound. The goal with two different versions is to have one that suits almost any DJ.’ Basically a massive dose of joy.
gardenstate resulted from a chance meeting between Marcus Schössow and Matthew Felner. Their debut album ‘Inspirations’ was released on Anjunabeats in October 2021, following a string of well-received singles and a raved-up take on Above & Beyond and Zoë Johnston’s ‘No One On Earth’.
