Astrea - Sleeping With Her LP

Late January 2017 will see Italian artist Astrea deliver his debut LP ‘Sleeping With Her’ via Fabio Gianelli’s Perpetualis imprint.

Michele Di Martino aka Astrea has been steadily carving out his own unique brand of murky and melodic electronica over the past few years via labels like Cologne’s Traum Schallplatten, Offenbach’s Connaisseur Recordings and Claudio Coccoluto’s The Dub. Here though we see Astrea mark a milestone in his career with his debut long player for Fabio Gianelli’s Perpetualis, launched in 2015 and home to material from the label founder himself, Modular Project and ONNO.

Across the ‘Sleeping With Her’ LP Astrea turns in an array of raw, emotive and intricate compositions such as title track ‘Sleeping With Her’ with its ethereal atmospherics, off-kilter percussion and thunderous bass leads. ‘Piagge’ sees Astrea exploring otherworldly realms with an amalgamation of organic percussion and soft pad swells accompanied by a stuttering dub-tinged bass, whilst ‘Time For Kings’ retains a similarly unique aesthetic with a nod to the far east via plucked strings, bell chimes and soft pianos before the ‘Interlude’ which shines light on dreamy synth melodies.

‘Lunar Activities’ drops the tempo and edges towards contemporary electro with growling square wave bass drones and broken rhythms, while ‘Little Trust’ sees Astrea’s full vocal contributions on offer, radiantly soaring over emotive pads and minimalistic percussion. ‘Soft’ again lays focus on bumpy drums and washed out synth chords. Closing cut ‘Temple Of Diana’ sees Astrea revisit Electro-tinged rhythms with stuttering 808’s running alongside eerie drones and swirling vocal murmurs.

Astrea’s ‘Sleeping With Her’ LP is out on Perpetualis 23rd January 2017.
