Soma Records announce the return of Soma Skool this September

After three years, Soma Records have announced the in-person return of its annual electronic music education event, Soma Skool, this September. Industry heavy-weights from all spectrums of the scene – from DJs and producers to label heads and journalists – will gather in Glasgow’s SWG3 for Scotland’s biggest and best electronic music conference, before an unmissable afterparty in the form of Slam DJs’ legendary club night: Pressure.
This year’s panels include Underground Glasgow, discussing the beauty – as well as the challenges – of Glasgow’s own underground scene; an Accessible Clubbing panel on how we can make clubbing more accessible to people with disabilities and an Artists Panel which will invite some of the worlds biggest techno artists to discuss what catalysed their own success.
Across the expanse of one of Glasgow’s most loved club spaces, there will be classes on offer, such as the Subsine Ableton Masterclasses; a range of demos from Pioneer DJ showcasing some of the best in mixing and technology; and industry talks spanning across mastering, artist agent seminars and music journalism workshops hosted by Resident Advisor.
For over 30 years, Soma Records has existed as one of the most revered electronic labels in the world. Headed up by Glasgow’s own champions of techno, Slam, Soma have been running the conference since 2003 as a way of extending its support to emerging electronic music enthusiasts. Nurturing the country’s own rapidly growing scene is at the heart of Soma Skool, offering Scotland the opportunity to connect with industry figures and learn how to best pave their future career in electronic music.
Rosie Shannon, Soma Skool Project Manager, said: “We are very happy to be bringing back soma skool with Creative Scotland, which for the first time in its 17 year history will be a virtual and physical event. During the pandemic there was record growth in people at home buying DJ and producer software and hardware, but a lack of physical education to learn. Soma Skool is here to help bridge that gap. This is a fantastic opportunity to get up close and personal with some of your favourite DJ’s and producers and learn from the best! At Soma records we look forward to putting this event on every year and seeing fresh talent come through because of it.”
Soma Skool tickets available on Resident Advisor, the full line-up will be announced soon. Tickets for the Pressure afterparty with Slam, Héctor Oaks, KlangKuenstler and LISALÖÖF available here
