This May sees Soul Clap, Boris Werner and Citizenn deliver three renditions of ‘Whispers’ EP, the remarkable 2014 bomb from esoteric live vocal house act Son of Sun.
A magical meeting of minds, Son of Sun combine the first-rate production talents of Tyson Ballard and inimitable vocal abilities of Sheff – an innovative duo formed whilst working at London’s event series Love Fever. Tyson is an industry veteran having spent over two decades performing on the world stage, whilst Sheff is a former lead baritone for the National Symphony Choir and together they combine elements of raw Chicago house with contemporary European nuances accentuated by Sheff’s deep and sensual vocals. Launched in 2012, the Love Fever label has quickly hosted quality artists such as Kim Ann Foxman, John Daly and Bicep, joined by three more of the scenes elite this release.
Bostonian funk/house/disco/hip hop fusionists Soul Clap deliver a popping rendition of ‘Whispers’ abundant with funk that combines Sheff’s heady vocals with a buoyant bassline and jazzy instruments. Dutch house maestro Boris Werner then instils a winding groove in his remix of ‘Moonchild’ with an infectious hook and hypnotic atmospherics, before hotly tipped London house sensation Citizenn ties it all together by taking a duskier approach to the same track by using sullen synths, rhythmic percussion and spectral keys.
Son of Sun ‘Whispers (Remixes)’ is released on Love Fever Records May 25th 2015.
