Red Bull Music Academy return for 2018
Resident Advisor to take over SonarLab in Harpa car park

Sónar Reykjavik, the most Northerly outpost of the global festival phenomenon, returns to Iceland over 16 – 17th March 2018. The festival marks the beginning ofSonar’s 25th anniversary celebrations next year – a landmark anniversary for one of the world’s most enduring and influential festivals.

Today, Sonar Reykjavik announces a host of new artists for 2018. Returning to the striking Olafur Eliasson designed Harpa concert hall for the sixth consecutive year are Red Bull Music Academy who will once again come with a host of cutting-edge artists in tow.

UK bass figurehead Kode9 will bring his new video game music-inspired show, with visuals from legendary Japanese animator Kōji Morimoto. Joining them will be dance music deconstructivist and Warp prodigy Lorenzo Senni; Philadelphia-based artist/activist Moor Mother; South London’s vocal experimenter Klein and Tri Angle’s sensual explorer Serpentwithfeet.

Elsewhere in Harpa, Resident Advisor will be hosting a stage in the basement: their debut partnership with Sonar Reykjavik. A car park by day, during Sonar the minimalist space is transformed into a dark and atmospheric stage, deep beneath the main space. Traditionally the festival’s stronghold for heads-down, no frills sets, the basement is a natural home for Resident Advisor and will play host to Cassy b2b Yamaho; Denis Sulta; Jlin; Lena Wilikens; Volruptus; Eva 808; Intr0beatz; Yagya and more.

At Sónar Reykjavik the adventure continues beyond the festival. A must-visit destination, Reykjavik is a cultural hub with an inimitable atmosphere and some of the world’s most famously Instagrammable scenery. There’s plenty to discover within the compact city itself, from pioneering New Nordic cuisine at DILL to drinks at the infamous local institution Kaffibarinn. Beyond the city, there’s a word of awe-inspiring natural sights to explore, from seeing the otherworldly Northern Lights to the natural attractions of the Golden Circle. Few other festivals offer you the opportunity to unwind in a geothermal bath before watching heads-down techno in a basement carpark at Harpa.
