Sonny Blakes ‘Perception’ EP is out on Tiefparterre Records this December with two healthy remixes in tow from Altroy and Simon/Off.
Since its foundation back in 2002 the Austrian-based imprint has been picking up quite a head of steam and with it’s second to last EP from A-Wax picking up love from heavy hitting names like Efdemin, Sei A, Waifs & Strays and Mr G, you can see why. This December the label returns with a blistering and diverse eight-track offering from exciting newcomer Sonny Blake.
Throughout this EP the listener is seamlessly meandered through various palettes of sound that perfectly exemplifies Sonny’s versatile tastes. ‘Vegas’ kicks things of as a powerful opener with sublime ethereal atmospherics wrapped around gentle harmonies, soft arpeggiated melodies and warm beats to deliver a particularly melodic yet punchy start to the single. The rest of proceedings are an engaging & varied exploration in the fresh producers dynamic & spongy production, from the smooth piano lines and trip-hop beats of ‘Camaro’ or the big room vibe of ‘Lens Flares’ right through to the warped bass of ‘Torque’ and the broken beats and stifled stabs of ‘Dresscode’ – the whole EP keeps you on your toes from start to finish.
First up for remix duty is Simon/Off who has seen releases on labels such as disko404, Immerse, Haunted Audio and Phuture Shock, for his re-imagining of ‘Torque’ he utilises choppy bass and broken beats to punch out a whacked out rhythm for the undeniably hypnotic cut. Last and certainly not least is US producer and Minimalsoul Recordings head honcho Altroy who dishes up a Detroi-influenced groove-laden jam over frisky percussion and deep resonating tones to bring the kinetic EP to a smooth and vibrant close.
