Sse Scottish Music Awards announce more nominees and performers!

Emeli Sandé and Nina Nesbitt join breakthrough artist Lewis Capaldi on the bill for the star-studded annual event celebrating the Scottish music industry and raising vital funds for Nordoff Robbins Scotland.

Nordoff Robbins Scotland and sponsors SSE have today added Scottish superstars Emeli Sandé and Nina Nesbitt to the SSE Scottish Music Awards, ensuring 2017’s awards is one of the most incredible events of the Scottish event calendar.

Critically-acclaimed, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé is nominated for the King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut Song Writing award, acknowledging her outstanding credentials on hits such as ‘Heaven’, ‘Next to Me’, ‘Clown’, ‘Hurts’ and many more from her albums ‘Our Version Of Events’ and ‘Long Live The Angels’. Edinburgh-born popstar Nina Nesbitt is nominated in the Coors Light Evolution category. Nina found success with her debut album ‘Peroxide’ and has proven to be an ever-evolving artist, set to release her second album in 2018.

Both Emeli and Nina will perform at the awards ceremony, ensuring crowds gathered at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket on 2nd December have a jam-packed evening of entertainment to enjoy, whilst simultaneously providing crucial fundraising for vulnerable children and adults across Scotland, for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins Scotland. Tickets are available via simon@nrscot.org.uk.

The 19th awards ceremony attracts fans and music aficionados alike and has been the main fundraising event for Nordoff Robbins Scotland since 1996. Funds raised on the night are a vital part of the charity’s ability to provide music therapists and sessions to those who need it most.

Emeli Sandé soared onto the music scene in 2010 and has collaborated and written with some of the UK’s biggest artists including Tinie Tempah, Cheryl Cole and Professor Green.

Speaking about her nomination and upcoming performance at the SSE Scottish Music Awards, Emeli Sande said: "It’s such a great honour for me to come back to Scotland and be part of the SSE Scottish Music Awards again. Winning the Breakthrough Award was a big deal for me. To get that kind of acknowledgement when you’re just starting out and trying to find your feet gives you so much confidence to keep going. I love Nordoff Robbins Scotland and being involved with them. Sometimes you get caught up in the industry side of it all, so it’s good to recognise the healing side of music."

Nina Nesbitt said: “It’s really cool just to be nominated and it’s always special to be recognised for something in your own country. I won the award for Best Emerging Artist in 2013, so it’ll be really nice to be back again. I’m a big supporter of Nordoff Robbins. Music is such an important thing as it’s therapeutic to everyone at the best of times, so to use it specifically to hep people who need it is a really powerful thing.”

Emeli Sandé plays the SSE Hydro on Sunday 15th October and her new single ‘Starlight’is out now. Watch the video. Nina Nesbitt plays at the Glasgow Art School on November 22nd and her new single ‘The Best You Had’ is out now. Watch the video.
