Morgan Heritage - Strictly Roots
2015 has been a whirlwind year for reggae giants Morgan Heritage, with the release of their much anticipated album ‘Strictly Roots’. Since ‘Here Come the Kings’ dropped back in 2013, the whole of the reggae world have been eagerly waiting in anticipation for their next studio release – and on 20th April, ‘Strictly Roots’ was born. After setting up their own label Cool To Be Conscious, the band now had an exciting platform to release and share their new material, and it’s first release have proved to be a worldwide phenomenon.

On its official US release, the album reached no. 1 on the US iTunes Reggae Chart – and played host to a variety of prestigious guest performers, including platinum-selling dancehall phenomenon Shaggy, American reggae and R&B vocalist J Boog, Eric Rachmany of Rebelution, Bobby Lee of Grammy-nominated SOJA and fresh Jamaican reggae sensation, Chronixx. Lead single ‘Perform and Done’, co-produced by BBC 1Xtra’s Seani B, premiered exclusively on Billboard, and received overwhelming radio success – with supporters including reggae icon David Rodigan MBE (BBC 1Xtra), Mistajam (BBC 1Xtra) and Don Letts (BBC 6Music).

The album eventually dropped in the UK on 15th June, and saw high-profile features go live on The Guardian, Complex and Clash. Renowned music magazine Echoes featured ‘Strictly Roots’ as their ‘Album of the Month’, whilst Riddim Magazine – Europe’s premiere reggae publication – also showed their support. The album has since gone on to top charts across the world, making it one of the most successful reggae albums of 2015 already.
