The Mekanism - Sweet Monday EP
This September will see Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse Records offer up The Mekanism’s ‘Sweet Monday’ EP, backed with a remix from SEK.
Damien Roussel aka The Mekanism is a French producer known for his works with labels such as Exploited, Needwant, Strictly Rhythm and Noir Music, and here we see Roussel add another leading imprint to his affiliations in the shape of Madhouse Records, further marking his relevance in the contemporary house music scene. Madhouse has had yet another great year so far with material from Demarkus Lewis and Voyeur garnerning support from the likes of Norm Talley, Mr.G, Detroit Swindle, Cottam and Ugly Drums.
Title track ‘Sweet Monday’ kicks things off and sees The Mekanism deliver his signature soul drenched house style with loose organic drum programming, snaking natural bass licks plus an amalgamation of smooth chords, vocal murmurs and bright string lines create a charming archetypal slice of house.
Following is ‘Felicidad’ which veers the rhythmic aspects into a more stripped-back realm with raw crunchy drums running alongside vacillating pads, looped vocal chops and dubbed out stabs, while bubbling synth whirrs and slow blooming strings add an underlying tension to the composition. Greece’s SEK then round things off with his ‘Raw Mix’ of ‘Felicidad’ and as the name would suggest offers up a rougher take on things with distorted drums, bumpy bass hooks and glitching electronics.
The Mekanism’s ‘Sweet Monday’ EP is out on Madhouse Records 11th September 2015.
