Birmingham techno is on the up, thanks to the hot new night on the block, Elements. Combining fresh international talent with the up-front values that defined the glory years of techno in Birmingham, Elements will descend on The Blackbox on February 27th.
All the way from LA, Truncate will headline the party, but this is about so much more than names on a line up… it’s about a collective doing what they believe in. When three techno purists jet off around Europe to some of the finest techno destinations known to man, this is the result.
The collective is made up of Rebekah (CLR), Dark Chambers (CLR) and a local lad who is tearing it up at the moment, Jay Sirett. All three of them have cut their teeth on the local Birmingham scene, and all three have been partying together in the likes of Berlin, Paris and Amsterdam, getting inspired along the way.
They are intent on delivering the ultimate party in the city that they all call home, but simply repeating the vibe of the good old days is not enough. Production is going to be king. With mesmeric visuals and a visual artist on hand to curate the whole experience, there is sure to be an extra dimension to the music. The Blackbox is Birmingham’s newest and most intimate club space, so was the natural choice to do the concept justice.
But lest we forget about the music… there are some mightily impressive CVs on show. Truncate’s atmospheric take on modern techno has done the damage at the likes of Fabric, The Warehouse Project, Womb in Tokyo and Movement in Detroit, not to mention as a producer on the likes of 50 Weapons. He is known for being part of the Droid Behaviour crew and is an experienced party promoter in his own right, so he is the perfect artist to get this exciting new project underway.
He will be joined on the decks by Rebekah, who has spent the last few years conquering the techno world. Now firmly part of the CLR crew, she has represented Chris Liebing’s legendary brand all around the world, DJing at the likes of Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, Awakenings in Amsterdam and Concrete in Paris. As a producer she has never been more in demand, following up her numerous releases on CLR with an EP on Soma. Her debut artist’s album is scheduled for mid 2016.
Dark Chambers AKA Patric McLean is also signed to CLR, having built his reputation with his own labels, CSGas Records and Division Sub Records. A qualified sound engineer by trade, he’s also done his fair share of performing, tirelessly perfecting his live sets that fuze the deeper side of techno with mad glitches and electronica. His labelmate Jay Sirett completes the line up, the young gun of Birmingham's techno scene and has grown from strength to strength the past 12 months with residencies at Occult and Trönika within the city.
With more dates to be announced throughout the year, the Elements team are excited about bringing quality techno to Birmingham. And not before time.
