The Beat Hotel today announces the line up for its second edition in Marrakech in March 2020. Returning to the palm tree-adorned Fellah Hotel, in the plains beneath the Atlas Mountains, the four-day festival presents a programme of live shows and villa parties, alongside a roster of talks, workshops, film and food.

Synth-wizard Floating Points – hot off the back of the release of the critically-acclaimed Crush LP, brings his new AV show, featuring live marbling projections by Hamill Industries.  He’s joined on the main stage by spoken word artist, lyricist and commentator-of-our-times Kate Tempest, Belgian alt-R&B songstress Charlotte Adigéry, and the groove-laced Kindness.  Representing Morocco’s rich musical heritage, Maalem Houssam Guinia showcases the ancient Gnawa tradition, whilst Moulay Ahmed El Hassani fuses traditional folklore forms with psychedelic guitar, autotune and drum machines.

Complementing the live programme, a roster of DJs from across the spectrum of alternative club sounds lines up.  Kaleidoscopic house journeyman John Talabot, jazz ambassador Gilles Peterson and Dutch disco favourites Carista and Young Marco all prepare for check-in.  They’re joined by Life & Death main man DJ Tennis, hypnotic techno maven Call Super and Madrid’s purveyor of washed house, Pional.  After one of the standout sets of the 2019 edition, Andrew Weatherall makes his return, with Sean Johnston in tow, under their “A Love From Outer Space” guise, for an extended 6-hour set.

As part of an expanded programme of local talent, genre-blurring DJ Yasmean, cratedigger Guedra Guedra, “ethnic-electronic” live act Sound of Mint and the hotly-tipped Casa Voyager stable (including Polyswitch, Driss Bennis & Jessin) are all announced.  Weaving more diverse, global sounds into the line-up, selector-to-watch Yu Su, Berlin-based Arabophile Habibi Funk, and Bucharest’s deep disco DJs Khidja bring their varied musical identities to the festival’s sprawling site.   Elsewhere, the percussive trio from Tel Aviv, Shame on UsDisco Halal owner Moscoman and Lithuania’s club provocateur Manfredas join the fold.

The music line up is complemented with a programme of talks, workshops, film and food.  Just some of the highlights over the weekend include; Turner Prize-winning visual artist Jeremy Deller, XL Records’ Richard Russell, pop culture photographer Hassan Hajjaj and best-selling Franco-Moroccan author Leila Slimani.
