The Best… Inaya Day

Inaya Day is one of the most influential vocalists and songwriters in house music today. The voice behind classics like 'Keep Pushin', 'Horny', 'Just Can't Get Enough' and 'Hold Your Head Up High'. Her smash hit 'Nasty Girl' is back for 2019 with a new version produced by Henry Hacking for Vicious Recordings, so it's a perfect time to find out more about this hugely talented artist…

The best performers I ever saw live… were Janet Jackson and Beyonce'. If I can include televised or video recorded live shows, of course I must include James Brown, Michael Jackson, and Jackie Wilson. This is strictly regarding performance. Best singers live is a whole other situation. 🙂

The best song I ever wrote was… one that I never put pen to paper to form. I sang and recorded it straight from mind to mic. That song became what is now a classic and my first house music single release, 'Keep Pushin'". The personal, life-saving stories that I've been told in association with this song are incredible so it's earned it's place as favourite.

The best advice I would give a young singer would be… to take care of your instrument. Rest, drink lots of water, and protect your ears. Be honest and stay true to yourself and your art. Don't follow trends unless you're only in it for financial gain. If you stay true, your audience will feel you and will reciprocate. All of the other stuff will follow.  Surround yourself with people you trust and always count and account for your own money. Read your contracts and ask questions. Have contracts in place even between friends with whom you do business. Things can get sticky when money is involved.

The best solo career moment of my life so far… was being the opening act for The Prodigy at Rod Laver Arena.

The best time I ever had on stage was… and is, when I'm performing with live musicians. There's no better feeling than to have other people on stage with you playing different parts to create one unified sound. An artist can be free to create moments and newness right on the spot.

The best way to live your life is… by putting God first and starting each day with gratitude. Operate in and with love. It makes everything so much easier.

The best dream I have for the future is… widespread respect and  loving kindness all the world through; The for others, the environment, and just…….life.

Henry Hacking & Inaya Day "Nasty Girl" is out 8th Feb on Vicious Recordings. Click here to stream on Spotify.
