The Future of Music Curation with Mixcloud
Online radio platform Mixcloud is returning to New York next week to host the second local edition of its “Mixcloud Curates” music industry discussion series, this time in partnership with The Good Room and The New Stand.
The event will feature an impressive panel of speakers representing a variety of different viewpoints within the music and tech industries, addressing the timely topic of "Technology, Humans, Curation and the Future of Music Discovery.”
They include:
David Byrne: legendary lead singer of the Talking Heads and founder of indie label Todo Mundo
Ryan Schreiber: founder and publisher of the influential music site Pitchfork
Emilie Friedlander: editor-in-chief of Vice Media’s Thump electronic dance music site
Mixcloud co-founder Nico Perez will moderate the discussion, which will explore some of the changes and challenges that technology has created for music discovery and curation. Panelists will share their views on how the near-infinite library of music has changed our perceptions of value in both the music itself, and its curation. Attendees will also gain insights and appreciation into the nuances of how algorithms differ from human curation, and what the future has in store.
After the panel the internationally acclaimed DJ and producer Martyn will perform.
