A minor tragedy has befallen the Leeds clubbing landscape today: The Garage is having to close its doors with immediate effect.
Having quickly established itself as the finest underground and intimate place for house, techno and disco parties – as well as being Leeds only dedicated electronic music record store – the club, that has played hosts to nights and DJs like Back to Basics, Redshape, Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall, Steffi and countless others is having to find a new home.
No one is strictly to blame; rather the current landlord has decided he doesn’t want to extend to the tenancy.
As such, the people behind The Garage (which was voted DJ Mag’s Best Small Club in 2012) are already looking for a new venue and have in fact found one. They hope to be up and running by Christmas, taking with them the best bits from The Garage whilst adding a few things they had already decided were essential.
All promotions have said they will stay with the club, including Back To Basics, Beatstreet, Bigger Than Barry, SetOneTwenty and Nest.
