Following the success of the monumental bank holiday triple opening weekend and having recently found its permanent home in Studio Spaces E1, The Hydra now holds a reputation as London’s premier and most edgy club series, consistently delivering a formidable cast of DJs
“It seems that settling in comes with its advantages. Hopefully we can provide a little bit of edge. Now that we’ve got a stable home we can push the boundaries a bit more” – Dolan Bergin (The Hydra)
The continuous music installments will next see deep house legend Kerri Chandler stepping up to the DJ deck to play a huge 8 hour marathon for the Eastern Electrics party on 3rd October.
Meanwhile, UK’s longest running club night Bugged Out continue their 20th anniversary events on 4th October, presenting Dusky with a special ‘The Next Step’ 6 hour extended set to celebrate the launch of their new label 17 Steps. This night’s colossal line up comprises a slot by legendary techno pioneer Juan Atkins, joined by Aus Music boss Will Saul who will go b2b with Trevino and will see garage legend Zed Bias and Manchester’s Paleman doing the same, while newcomers Lorca and Velvit complete the bill.
The latest partnership to be revealed is with renowned dubstep innovators Hyperdub and Chicago-centric Footwork-Juke pioneers Teklife taking over Studio Spaces E1 on the 11th October. Recently awarded Best Small Label at AIM Independent Music Awards, Hyperdub founder Steve Goodman aka Kode9 also took home the coveted prize for ‘Innovator of 2014’. A new award category for 2014, the Innovator Award celebrates the achievements of an artist, label or business person pushing the boundaries of independent music.
These two titans come together for a night of special b2b sets with Kode9, Ikonika, Scratch DVA, Jam City and Nightwave reppin’ Hyperdub and DJ Spinn, DJ Taso, DJ Ear and DJ Taye from the Teklife side. With five very special guests yet to be announced, and Hyperdub turning 10 this year, this is one not to be missed.
On the 25th October, things get celebratory: Omar S’ FXHE Records marks a decade in business this year, while Boddika’s record label NonPlus+ celebrates its fifth anniversary. The label owners themselves will of course be spinning, bringing a troupe of artists to help mark their anniversaries, including Kyle Hall and Kassem Mosse, who will be performing in the wake of his superb ‘Workshop 19’ release from earlier this year. Also stepping up for this one is Moritz Von Oswald, who will bring a special hybrid Live / DJ set. Completing the line-up will be Radio Slave, Luke Hess and Marcellis.
With no concession having been made to The Hydra’s mantra thus far – ‘Exceptional Music, presented expertly’ – and now with Timeout’s seal of approval over the event series and its permanent venue, it really is substance over hype to the highest degree.
