The New Dawn Of Banksia : Breaking The Borders Of Electronic Music

Every so often a producer steps up with a distinct approach and adept skillset that transfers across genres. Listening to a preview of his latest cuts it’s clear to see his star is continuing to ascend and position as a name to watch over the coming years. We were instantly impressed by his ability to flow between deep, chunky underground House manoeuvres, and a rave fuelled workout from the early 90’s with a touch of modern musicality.

Undefined and unrestricted by genres, it’s clearly more about the energy of every piece of music and art he lends his name, the Banksia brand drives forward with a distinct and polished finesse. Before we move forward, it worth a quick step back… Born in Manchester, yet raised in Zambia his early influences shine throughout his productions. Now residing in the heart of San Francisco, which is a true electronic hub, this breakthrough artist and DJ has now found his core.

Recognised for delivering an artistic journey from studio to the stage, he actively embraces the underground whilst fluidly translating with a broad crossover appeal. His music consistently serves as a positive output and internal guide following the passing of his father. This period remains the catalyst for his ominous output and how Banksia originally formed. Applying a prominent love for Disco, Funk, R&B, Soul and Jazz with firm inflections of House and Techno. His unique style encapsulates authentic sounds projected from his upbringing back in Zambia (Africa). Each performance and live DJ set encompasses an expanse of worldly influence, leaving a lasting impression and musical memory with every listen.

Landing with a sizeable mark that’s equal to the impression his sets leave upon crowds, Banksia is fast becoming a notable name on the international scene. Both respected by industry and audiences alike, he is no stranger to featuring on global stages. Entertaining at some of the world’s most revered festivals and clubs, Banksia’s sound instantly transmits an energy that ignites dance floors. Vasu Patel, the name behind the profile, proudly relishes his growth and achievements to date.

With a well-rounded career spanning across the musical spectrum, his electronic-fuelled experiences and soundscapes have become second nature. Starting from his early music production studies in Sydney (Australia) and reaching across to the consoles of his home in California, Vasu has clearly integrated his vision for the future. Now accelerating his public identity through the power of his music, Banksia is fully immersed in the creative process, connecting with the crowd with relative ease.

Recently his remix of Australian duo Lastlings “Last Breath” was released on Rufus Du Sol’s imprint Rose Avenue Records. This timely piece added another dimension to the already successful single for the act. The project further extended the Banksia name to achieve widespread international acclaim, consistently dominating dance floors whilst providing a trademark sound that journeyed across House and Techno landscapes. Every show since then has culminated in new fans and an ever growing loyal following.

As a DJ, Banksia has supported a long list of leading players, including Black Coffee, Disclosure, Moodymann, Peggy Gou, Tale Of Us, Rufus Du Sol, and Zhu and ZHU at two Blacklizt parties in his home city. An introduction to the festival scene in 2019 allowed him to perform at some iconic events including Outside Lands Music Festival and Life is Beautiful Music Festival. Additionally, in 2021 Vasu signed a residency in Las Vegas, showcasing a mix of underground music at the pivotal Ayu Day Club and also for Zouk nightclub under the branded party Moonbeam.

Banksia continues to build a diverse discography, adding to a body of work that signifies a path straight to the top. With a highly anticipated EP already scheduled for 2022 and a run of hot new remixes, Banksia is already prepared for a solid year ahead. He’s dynamic, distinct and rave ready. Stream, download and book your tickets to the next Banksia performance, his journey’s one you definitely want to follow closely.

  • Saw Banksia perform an intimate set opening for Durante at Audio Nightclub and instantly fell in love with his sound and energy. Almost every single track had me scratching my head wondering where he found that unique sound. Would definitely recommend to see him live if you have the chance!
