The Old Blue Last Announces Takeover of Sebright Arms…

The Old Blue Last is proud to announce their takeover of one of Hackney’s favourite drinking holes and live music venues the Sebright Arms.

The team behind Shoreditch’s riotous Old Blue Last and favourite Dalston night spot Birthdays, alongside associated partner Vice, are set to continue their legacy of supporting London’s local nightlife, taking the Sebright Arms under their wing and breathing new life into the long-established stalwart of the city’s music scene.

Having closed its doors earlier this month for refurbishment, the iconic venue will re-open again to the public – only half finished! – on Monday 6 March. To mark the occasion they are throwing a series of intimate gigs throughout the month.

Partnering with So Young Magazine and DIY Presents for special nights within the series, the back-to-back shows will see some of the biggest and best names on the circuit playing to the much loved 150-capacity space, with Ulrika Spacek, Spring King, Gengahr, Traams, Dead Pretties, LICE and Hotel Lux all announced so far.

Head booker of Vice, Cal McRae, said: “We're beyond excited to be working on Sebright Arms, there's a real simplicity and authenticity to it all – it's a straight up boozer with an incredible sounding venue that myself, along with a lot of other people hold in high regard. Most importantly, it's another bar I can get away with spending most of my time in, and calling it work.

We want to bring Sebright back to it's original form, filling it with an in house programme consisting of some of the most exciting, up and coming acts as well as established acts in a setting you'd never normally be able to see them in, which is something that we've developed a great reputation for doing so over at our other sites.

The response from everyone we've told so far has been overwhelmingly positive so it's already been a total pleasure to work on. We can't wait to properly move in and invite everyone over for a pint.”

The venue will also be partnering with DICE, the ticketing app dedicated to supporting independent venues and growing the live music industry. Ross Allmark, Head of Venues, said: "We've spent more of our lives than we probably should have propping up the bar at The Old Blue Last, so we’re ridiculously excited to work with the team behind The Old Blue Last to introduce a whole new generation of music fans to The Sebright Arms”.

Stay tuned for further announcements over the next few weeks, this is going to be a busy month at the Sebright Arms!

Monday 6th March
Sebright Arms is partnering with So Young Magazine for their opening night, and will see Dead Pretties, LICE and Hotel Lux all take to the stage, with headliners still to be announced.

London three-piece Dead Pretties made tremors with their recent single ‘Social Experiment’, and are firm favourites within London’s underground rock scene. LICE, who describe themselves as “awful-sounding”, join Dead Pretties on the bill, and will provide the basement with their relentless riffs and frenzied lyrics. Formed only last year, Hotel Lux are known for their feral sounds and intense live shows, and their debut on the Sebright stage will be no different.

With free entry to the show and very special headliners still to be announced, the opening night at Sebright Arms is set to be massive

Tuesday 7th March
DIY Presents are partnering with the team behind Old Blue Last for their second night at The Sebright Arms. Having previously hosted bands such as Dream Wife and Girl Band at the Old Blue Last, DIY Presents always brings something serious to the table. And while we can’t yet reveal who will be headlining the evening, we can say that we’re very very excited…

Wednesday 8th March
Ulrika Spacek will headline the mid-week show at the Sebright. Having recently supported Sunflower Bean on their UK tour, the quintet have been described by NME as possessing an “otherworldly ambience”, and will provide a supernatural soundscape for the evening.

Friday 10th March
A band that is no stranger to the Sebright’s stage, Traams will kickstart the weekend with their Friday night show. Since breaking onto the scene in 2013 with their debut album “Grin”, Traams have packed a punch with each performance they’ve played – and this is set to be no different.

Saturday 11th March
Having recently revealed that they are back in the studio, Gengahr are shaping up to make 2017 their year – not least because of their show at the Sebright Arms. Often compared to Alt-J, Royal Blood and Youth Lagoon, their radio-ready dream pop has proved popular with the masses, and it will be a real treat to see them at this intimate venue.

Thursday 16th March
Manchester 4-piece Spring King will also play the basement in this special series. Their fiery garage rock sound with catchy pop hooks garnered support from Zane Lowe, who chose their track to open the Beats1 Radio station. Now having released their debut album last year, Spring King are set for big things.
