30th March sees Glasgow-based duo Illyus & Barrientos offer up their debut EP for Tube & Berger / Juliet Sikora's esteemed Kittball Records, entitled The Wasp.
When Kylie Minogue’s team get in touch about officially remixing her latest single, you know you’re in demand. This is the reality for Illyus & Barrientos, who as well as Kylie, have happily obliged to remix the likes of Claptone, Gorgon City, MK, Lovebirds and Tube & Berger so far in their blossoming career.
The dynamic duo have also garnered support from fellow DJs and the public alike through their original releases on label’s including Coyu’s Suara, Yousef’s Circus Recordings, Defected Records and Mark Knight’s Toolroom, where they saw ‘So Serious’ top the Beatport charts plus reach #1 on BBC Radio 1’s dance chart with heavy support coming from Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Danny Howard and Mistajam.
Kicking off proceedings is the EP’s title-named track, ‘The Wasp’, a steady four-to-the-floor groover that combines a tidy selection of percussive elements, vibrant horns and numerous off-kilter effects with the spoken word vocals courtesy of Norwegian vocalist/songwriter/composer/producerand DJ, Marck Jamz.
Closing this excellent two-track release is ‘La Yuca’, blending several layers of distinctive Spanish-spoken vocal snippets with crashing cymbals, crunchy drums and a deep, rumbling bassline – one readymade for the European clubs the pair will be performing in throughout 2018.
The Wasp EP is available exclusively via Beatport on 30th March and everywhere else two weeks later.
