K+Lab - The Worldly’s (Remixed)

K+Lab, the keytar-wielding prodigy from New Zealand who currently residing in Vancouver for the foreseeable future, remains one of the towering figures on the funk glitch-hop scene. Most recently, his 2016 album “The Worldly's," released on Gramatik’s label Lowtemp Records, repeated the success of his full length debut from 2014 (“Spacedirt”), and picked up a nomination for best electronic album at the NZ Music Awards. Then last year, he and Stickybuds, teamed up on a single for Westwood Records, “Clap Ya Hands Now," that was licensed by Sony for the Spiderman: Homecoming teaser trailer and K+Lab also became Beatport’s best selling glitch hop artist in 2017.

On the back of those achievements, he found himself launching his Yum Yum tour taking him to festivals and venues around the USA, Canada, Costa Rica, Australia and New Zealand such as Earth Frequency Festival, Tall Tree Music Festival, Shambhala Music Festival, Oregon Eclipse, Motion Notion, FozzyFest, Bohemian Beatfreaks, and more, with 2018 already looking even busier.

The main theme of “The Worldly’s” – a hefty dose of funk, generously mixed with hip hop and glitch – proved to be a perfect set-up for some talented artists to put their spin on selected tracks. Stickybuds flipped the irresistible G-funk banger “Pull Up” featuring Melodownz and Mustafa Akbar- the godfather of the Canadian electronic funk scene certainly delivered the goods. Amsterdam’s funkiest guitarist and fellow Lowtemp artist, Beat Fatigue, bluesed-up the opening track “Mothership ReEntry” featuring Alias and The Mic Smith like only he can. Denver’s Alex Medellin, aka Late Night Radio, turned the tempo of drum.n.bass stomper “Chestnut” down, but kept it’s swing. Following this, Melbourne-based funk veteran Cheshire gave “Fangz” an extra kick. Next up, Canadian rising stars Pigeon Hole have been breaking through with their simple-yet-heavy productions that are adding more injuries to the dance floor including their stomping new rework of “Neckbreaker." Closing out, west-coasters Lazy Syrup Orchestra have also added some special sauce to the last track “Medina Lena." Additionally, captain K+Lab did not want to miss out on the fun adding a VIP version of the stand-out track “Don’t Lose Yo Self."

K+LAB has assembled a truly diverse group of artists representing Europe, US, New Zealand/Australia and Canada for this remix EP. Each has put a unique twist to the original track while – of course- kept it funky.
