With a big US tour and Glasto coming up, and almost punch-drunk with accolades since November’s ‘Hawt’ (4mil+ streams, a Mixmag Best Single, Danny Howard’s Hottest Record in the World) set the scene on fire, TIBASKO drop their 2-track EP ‘U Want It/Dayglow’. Their last release ‘Must Be Right’ grabbed notable attention (inc. Mixmag, Rinse, BBC) and sealed their status as both bold breakbeat exponents and determined genre-busters, now again incorporating the iconic M1 organ into their production.
Fresh from their European tour, including supporting Yotto and Elderbrook and shows in Berlin, Paris, Prague, Brussels, Amsterdam, TIBASKO aka longtime best mates Ken Petalcorin and Andy Bowden will create dancefloor fever with the already club-tested ‘U Want It’ on their biggest ever run of live shows, while ‘Dayglow’ provides the perfect balance for the EP with its melodic, more contemplative feel.
U Want It is high energy dance fuel, with glittering showers of notes, singing synths and wailing sirens, the M1 organ giving a fresh twist to the nostalgic pitch-shifted, frantic vocal. ‘We’ve been rinsing this in our sets lately, so eager to get this out there. Reminiscent of ‘Hawt’, but with extra TIBASKO flavour added.’ – Andy. ‘A feel-good anthem for summer festival season, with a big euphoric, gliding pad in the breakdown alongside the catchy vocal hook.’ – Ken.
Dayglow is a delicious slice of jumpy, nervy breakbeat, with heavy reverbed bass notes, slathered in more chilled melodic synth arps, for your dancing or listening pleasure alike. ‘‘Dayglow’ acts as an antithesis to the clubby ‘U Want It’, showcasing a more soothing and melodic vibe, inspired by Groove Armada’s iconic track ‘At the River’.’ – Ken.
Last year’s BBC Introducing Dance Artist of the Year nom and Pete Tong’s Future Star of 2021 award were prophetic for TIBASKO. The summer’s heating up nicely.
