Sky Deep’s first long-player, divided into two split EPs, melts all kinds of Deep’s artistic expressions she’s been adopting throughout the years and casts them into musical forms of various shapes. Yet they still have some common denominators like boldness, emphasis on percussive sounds, reserved approach to harmonies and the depths of Sky’s vocal.
Sky Dietrich started as an MC and a songwriter and later on, she naturally transitioned to DJing. Following her father, who had a disco band and worked as a multi-instrumentalist in a church, Sky Deep became a professional guitarist herself. She also worked as an engineer in a recording studio recording soul music, studied audio research at NYC Institute and played in funk bands. After moving to Berlin in 2015, she joined female:pressure network, produced two EPs and recently curated Reclaim The Beats festival. The newest record Time & Space pt.1 EP contains 5 tracks of various energies and dimensions of Sky Deep, stemming from her long musical path and rich experience.
The whole album starts with Time & Space Intro, a short, social appeal from Sky Deep – like she would be a prophet coming to us from the outer space or our inner selves, reminding us the greater sense and scale of each one of us. Moves dauntlessly hurtles through the dance floor, armored in a smashing kick drum, Sky’s funky singing and acoustic guitar riffs. That Kick Though is another empowering tune with bouncing kick and tight beat, which slowly unfolds all its layers of squeaks and drums. Guaranteed banger. On Set Free, Sky unleashes the spirit of experiments with sounds which continuously disturb the main beat structure. ‘Hunter’ is a sensual song of prey and a symbiosis of many loves of Sky Deep, including club beats, singing and an electric guitar.
Time & Space Pt. 1 will be released digitally on November 10th via Reveller Records.
