top 100 djs raises £69,289 in aid of unicef

DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs Poll is the world’s largest publicly-voted music poll and this year saw voting hit a record high with over 1.2 million verified votes received from across the world. This comes as welcome news for Unicef UK, the official charity beneficiary of Top 100 DJs for the past two years. This year’s fundraising total for the global charity stands at £40,233.

Over the past two years, the fundraising total raised from this partnership has now reached £69,289.98, including a personal donation of £10,000 by DJ Mag. With this money Unicef has been able to provide enough vaccines to protect 815,175 children from tetanus.

Unicef works in over 190 different countries around the world from the Middle East to continental Europe and beyond. Since its inception in 1946, the charity has continued to provide vital services to children such as education, emergency relief, water, sanitation & hygiene and vaccinations, and currently provides 80% of the world’s life-saving food resources. Every donation is used to maximum effect so through the power of music and unity, being able to bring together resources from the dance community to help and empower Unicef’s plight against children in danger is a positive use of the strength and love of the electronic music scene at large.

Commenting on the partnership and donations made, Unicef UK Executive Director Mike Penrose said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to all at DJ Mag for their continued support through the 2018 Top 100 DJs poll. This year marked the second year of our partnership with the magazine and we are delighted with the total raised. The donations from DJ Mag’s generous readers will go a long way in helping Unicef UK protect children in danger around the world and really will help transform their lives”.

The campaign was supported by leading DJs from the poll including Oliver Heldens, Don Diablo, Hardwell, NERVO, Alan Walker, R3hab, Armin van Buuren, Fedde Le Grandand also Belgium festival Tomorrowland.

Martin Carvell, Managing Director, DJ Magazine said: “We were proud to renew our partnership with Unicef in the 25th year of Top 100 DJs. The growth of our annual DJ poll over the last quarter of a century has been nothing short of breathtaking and we are delighted to be able to – with the help of our readers, voters, partners and some of the world's most important electronic artists – support such a fantastic cause.”

Since its launch in 1993 as an editorial list, Top 100 DJs has become a benchmark within the music industry, making it truly representative of an ever-growing global scene. The 2018 winner Martin Garrix was crowned No.1 DJ for a third consecutive year in a row, whilst the likes of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Afrojack and Marshmello made up some of the names in the Top 10. Newcomers in the 2018 Poll included the likes ofNina Kraviz, MATTN and Cedric Gervais, whilst names like Paul Kalkbrenner, Alison Wonderland, Eric Prydz, Above & Beyond, NERVO, Richie Hawtin, Diplo, The Chainsmokers, Carl Cox and Steve Aoki were included keeping the poll reflective of widespread trends across the world.
