Having already received positive acclaim from the likes of The 405, ‘Golden Line’, the EP by French electronic duo TOYS, has been expanded for a deluxe release on Fairtrack/Caroline – set to drop on 10th July.
This new, special edition features four remixes of tracks from the original; the first of which is from A Theory. An emerging London-based producer who has recently been featured by XLR8R, here he presents his take on lead single, ‘Golden Line’.
Further reworks see ‘Fire’ in the hands of fellow upcoming Parisian duo Arigato Massaï, who bring a mellow dub take to the original, cut with soulful hip-hop vocal samples. Next up is Jo Def, a stalwart of the fresh LA-based label and collective Soulection, who switches up the pace with a slick footwork edit.
Finally, German techno duo Trashlagoon – a key act signed to the label of prominent French blog Delicieuse Musique – stray away from 4×4 with their mix, chopping up the samples to create heavy syncopation.
Comprising Parisians Paul Prier and Bastien Doremus, TOYS is a project based on a shared passion for electronica, including Space, Kevin Saunderson, Pink Floyd, and Jay Dee. The duo create an infectious pop energy, packed with synthesizers and bathed in hip-hop and house.
TOYS are frequent musical collaborators, having provided remixes for artists such as Two Door Cinema Club, Breton, Lescop, and François & the Atlas Mountains. Their own single, ‘Noise’, opened Kitsuné’s Parisien 3 compilation, while ‘Hey Boy’ has been described by Dummy as ‘a gloriously intense haze, a meander through an early-morning mist of synths’.
TOYS continue to work with a wide range of artists, recently touring as the backing band for Christine and the Queens. With such a broad selection of projects on the go, we can expect to hear a lot more from TOYS throughout 2015.
