Très Mortimer debuts on Slacker 85 with ‘Secrets’, a seductive club-shaking house anthem

A nod to vintage house with a modern flair, ‘Secrets’ is “four minutes and 45 seconds of premium dance floor gasoline”

Producer-to-watch Très Mortimer debuts on Seth Troxler’s Slacker 85 label with his seductive new single, ‘Secrets’, out on 18th September. It’s the first track to be shared from his forthcoming mini-LP, ‘M1 City’, a dedication to the mighty Korg M1.

‘Secrets’, like so many iconic dance hits, was cooked up by Très pre-gig with the dancefloor in mind. It celebrates the refined simplicity of house music – TR-909 drums, a subtle rolling bassline, intimately whispered and soulfully sung vocal shots that entice the listeners to dance, and classic Korg M1 synth stabs. Together with dramatic contemporary builds, a highly danceable house smasher is formed.

Inspired by house stalwarts like Robin S, MK, and DJ Deeon as well as modern names like PAWSA, ‘Secrets’ is “four minutes and 45 seconds of premium dance floor gasoline,” says Très.

I wrote it on a sunny day in LA. I was headlining a warehouse party that night. All of my best mates were in town. Those are the kind of days when I make my best records – when I have a big show I just want to cook up a special moment for the dance floor,” he explains.

The crowd has exploded every time I’ve played ‘Secrets’ live (watch HERE). When Seth Troxler heard it, he immediately wanted to sign it. I’m so grateful that it’s finally happening.

Très Mortimer is a key cog in Chicago’s house scene. In recent years, he’s built a keen following while defining his no frills, dancefloor-focused sound. Influenced by his Polish heritage, Trés has signed with top labels like Mad Decent, Insomniac’s IN/Rotation, and Ministry of Sound, and launched his own label, Optics Records. Bursting onto the scene with his clever rework of Zombies’ 1968 hit ‘Time Of The Season’ (1M+ streams), notable releases so far include his downtempo collaboration with plumpy, ‘BAMBU’, and his most recent single, ‘At Night I Think Of You’, which has since been remixed by Seth Troxler and Nick Morgan.

Launched in 2023, Slacker 85 is a record label – on which ‘Secrets’ is released – that aims to give a platform to “oddball, esoteric and diverse sounds,” positioning itself as a battalion against the overly-polished, demure dance artists dominating the scene. Its founder, Seth Troxler, “sick of cool, of posture,” wanted to create something that represents “the anti-hero, the kids who could have done it but didn’t care to try”—in other words, “the slacker.” So far, the Troxler-run-label has offered an array of releases from the likes of Jackmaster, Danny Daze, Dan McKie and Andre Salmon, pushing out tracks inspired by house music past, but very much working within the confines of house music present.

‘Secrets’ is the start of an exciting road towards M1 City. If this first single is anything to go by, we’re in for a wild ride.
