Berlin brothers and production duo TWO LANES have carved out a growing reputation as authentic composers within the elite of electronica. Their history of combining synths and software with organic, orchestral elements has seen a growing army of fans worldwide tuning into their growing discography. Now the pair return with the first single from a pending EP, ‘Calling’, and it’s yet another feather in their crowded cap.
‘Calling’ isn’t a bells-and-whistles call to the dance floor but rather a fervent antithesis to “the drop”. Muted and restrained, its soft, undulating, twisting journey through exquisitely layered composition is an exploration of sound, an intelligent, emotion-led construction that doesn’t build to some obvious crashing dénouement that would lesson the quality of the work. Thoughtful and slow-burning, ‘Calling’ showcases Leo and Rafa’s signature style that has seen them feature on the likes of BBC Radio 1, SiriusXM and Triple J.
With the upcoming EP already confirmed, the track’s press information hints at a possible bigger project in the offing at some point in 2025. With such natural talent and exquisite penmanship within the studio, we can only hope that hints become reality before too long.
