UK-based indie folk balladeer Finnegan Tui unveiled a haunting single titled ‘Fuel on the Fire’ via Eywa Music Ltd. Boasting a whopping 7.7 million streams across platforms and spins on BBC Radio 6 and BBC Introducing South West, Tui is fostering a reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling emerging voices. Tui has toured extensively across Europe, supporting FINK on over 30 shows and opening for RY X in Oslo, Stockholm, and Bratislava, as well as for Junodream, Cosmo Sheldrake, Elder Island, Ajimal, and Alejandro Aranda. His festival appearances include Secret Garden Party, Boomtown, Shambala, and the International Forum Festival. This September, he will appear at Kernowfornia Festival, further cementing his place on the international stage. Finnegan’s musical journey has also led him to collaborate with some of the best in the industry, including Charlie Andrew (Alt-J), Grammy-winning engineers like Matt Lawrence, the Oscar-winning Niv Adir, and many others.
Finnegan Tui has landed coverage from tastemaker publications including The Guardian, CLASH Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, NOTION, Earmilk and Rolling Stone India. He also earned a high-profile sync placement with his song ‘In Between’ in the US TV series Walker Independence. Live, he continues to make waves, having sold out headline shows at Omeara in London, La Boule Noire in Paris, and Lark in Berlin earlier this year.
Hailing from Wellsford, New Zealand, Tui was raised by a musical family, picking up the violin at just six years old. At 15, he relocated to the UK, later earning a scholarship to the prestigious Guildhall School of Music in London. During his time there he landed commissions from the Museum of London and Channel 4, and exhibiting work at both the Tate Modern and the Barbican. Drawing inspiration from the introspective lyricism of Nick Drake, the atmospheric production of James Blake and Lorn, and the raw folk soul of Ben Howard, Bon Iver, and FINK, Finnegan Tui crafts a spellbinding blend of Indie Folk and Folktronica, sure to ensnare fans of these artists as well as those of Johnny Flynn.
‘Fuel on the Fire’ is a profoundly moving track, produced by Jasper Trim and mixed by Andrew Scheps. It begins with hushed acoustic guitar work that leaves plenty of space for Finnegan Tui’s evocative vocals to shine through. His delivery is remarkably potent yet commandingly controlled; his rich, dark voice drawing out notes that soar and leap through introspection and emotionality. The track swells as intimate folk transfigures itself into a cinematic soundscape, with resonant beats, somber strings, and ambient textures ushering in a choral outro that is almost hymnal in its gravity and depth – the perfect close to a powerful emotional voyage.
