‘Disquiet’ is a breathtaking composition brimming with complex layers of emotionality. An atmospheric orchestral opening passage gently swells as it ushers in a stirring violin melody, which remains a refrain throughout most of the song. As layers of lustrous horns, muted plucked mandolin, and passionate strings gently gain momentum, gorgeous tone-bending slides of a pedal steel guitar played by Hamilton Belk bathe the track in a mist of feelings; ineffable and liminal, with a distinct undercurrent of quiet turbulence.
