Out of Athens and prolific under the alias Angel Stoxx having held down the Neon Music label as part of Phatjak, Vangelis Kostoxenakis immerses himself on the dancefloor with shock-resistant tribalism. The bulbous drum buffers of low-slung funker ‘202’ are cheered by luminous, tropically-trimmed chords and shaken by a head-ringing breakdown…but VK doesn’t wanna go anywhere other than deeper and deeper into the groove. ‘The Rhythm’ is similarly rotund in its foundation and direct in its approach. While an epic drop takes brains swimming, with mechanised vocals at a paranormal altitude, getting back to packing out the party remains priority.
