Various Artists – Split EP
There is no way the 13th release from Beef Records is in anyway going to be unlucky: it is a split EP featuring the production talents of Fatty M & Matoa, Roland Clark, JTRP and Glenn Astro in remix mode. Jimpster, Roberto Rodriguez and many more have all supported it, and early plays have come on radio stations across the world.
The first cut is a joint effort between Prague’s Roxy Club resident DJ and bookings manager Fatty M and respected dubstep producer and fellow Czech Matoa. ‘Douchebag’ is a lovably louche and laid back house groover. Clean neon chords, bouncing bass and well treated vocal intimations all give off an air of cool. A sampled melodic motif is the cheery icing on the cake. Featuring the vocal talents of Roland Clark, next track ‘Dig Deeper’ is a more urgent, darker deep house track with mysterious key riffs, nice sheet metal snares and a vibe fuelled vocal that will send floors into overdrive.
It’s then to JTRP, who have started their career with two bass heavy releases on T. William’s ‘Deep Teknologi’ label, and their ‘Los Santos’, which has been played on the In New DJs We Trust show on BBC Radio 1. Raw and deep, ghetto leaning and sleazy, it’s a kicking house track with plenty of bombast and dance floor clout.
As for the remix from man of the moment Glenn Astro – who releases on K7!, Tartlet and Kolour LTD – it has already had 30,000 plays on Soundcloud! It’s a slow-mo, scuffed up and spaced out house track with tons of reverb, dusty drums and filtered, jazz keys in the mould of peer Max Graef. Possibly his best bit of date to work, it rounds out an EP that is full of flavour and new school talent.
