Victor Ruiz Remixes Binary Finary’s Legendary Trance Hit ‘1998’

Victor Ruiz serves as one of the European techno circuit’s most dedicated and innately talented artists and in recent years he has experienced a shift into the industry’s upper echelons. A staunch contributor to the progression of his beloved genre, the Brazilian native has crafted a substantial back catalogue of quality cuts that represent nothing but a sheer passion for underground beats. Like only a select few before him, Victor Ruiz now takes on Binary Finary’s iconic hit ‘1998’, delivering an impeccable 2023-edit for Armada Music – 20 Years’ Anniversary Album.

Victor’s immaculate remix guides this historic trance number into darker, techno waters with the use of rolling percussion and a dominant kick. Heartily championed by the likes of Joseph Capriati, Adam Beyer, Armin van Burren, Vintage Culture, Enrico Sangiuliano and ANNA, Victor’s massive tech-trance rendition is a classic reincarnation that’s ideal for that late-night, apex moment; tried and tested at some of the globe’s biggest events and festivals. Tethered to the anthemic spirit of its counterpart through its emblematic trance riffs, the peak-time edit is warmly-welcomed by a techno community who have eagerly awaited its arrival over the summer months.

“1998 was the year I started to play music. On Christmas Day my parents gifted me a bass guitar and that changed my whole life. Fast forward to 2005 when I started to produce Electronic Music, I was really into Psytrance and Trance music. I discovered Binary Finary’s ‘1998’ and it became an instant classic and a favorite. I always dreamt of remixing the original track as it has influenced me so much throughout the years.

When I got the chance to put my hands on it, I had to make something special since I had been mentally rehearsing this moment for over a decade. It took me a few months to come up with the arrangement idea, but once I had it clear, I knew what to do. This remix is just a confirmation that dreams do come true.” – Victor Ruiz.

Binary Finary’s legendary original served as one of the biggest dance music tracks of the 90’s and early 00’s, infiltrating the touring playlists of almost every major trance DJ on the circuit. Through a series of remixes from the likes of Paul van Dyk, Alex M.O.R.P.H and Dosem, ‘1998’s impact has continued to surge over the years, even re-emerging on the Beatport charts as a No.1 and proving itself to be one of the most influential productions in the evolution of electronic music.
